Support Worker - Relief

We have an exciting opportunity for relief support workers to join the team at this supported living service providing support for adults with learning disabilities and associated health needs. 

Role Responsibility

You'll be providing support for day-to-day living, such as social activities, sports and hobbies, employment, holidays etc along with support with general household duties such as cooking and cleaning.

Our services operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you will work in shifts (as allocated by your manager).  This means you will need to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required by the rota.  You may also be required to undertake sleep-in shifts (again, on a rota basis).

The needs of the people we support vary from service to service, so please feel free to discuss your preference with the manager during your interview. As this is a Relief position, you will be working at various locations in Barry. We know that some people are looking for more of a caring role supporting people with limited mobility and communication difficulties, who may need more personal care and assistance.  Others may relish working in a busy service where the people we support are very independent and active in the local community.  We are keen to ensure that you are allocated to the service most suited to your abilities and personality, so opportunities to transfer to other services are always available.

You will work at one service, allowing consistency for both you and the people we support, and you will be paid for your full shift (full time staff usually work 5 x 7.5 hour shifts in a week, but part time positions may be available.) Occasionally you may be asked to work a shift at a nearby service if a staffing need arises.

The Ideal Candidate

At CMG, we believe that a successful Support Worker doesn’t always have experience, but shares our vision to ensure that ‘every moment has potential’ for the people we support to learn new skills and to achieve their dreams.

Basic numeracy and literacy skills as well as good English are a must.
An NVQ/Diploma L2 or 3 in Health and Social Care and some experience in care work would be an added bonus, but we have a fantastic in-house training team who can help you along if you are taking your first steps in your career as a support worker.

Above all you need to be kind, caring and ready to help our teams ensure that our services are comfortable, happy, fulfilling and safe places to live.

Package Description

We operate the Government's childcare vouchers initiative, which are taken from your salary before your usual Tax and NI contributions are deducted, and also the Government's pension scheme.

We offer all staff 28 days annual leave, rising to 30 days after 1 year, with an option to buy up to 5 days additional holiday per year.  Annual leave and additional holiday are prorated for part time staff.

We also have a generous staff discount scheme, to save money on shopping, days out etc.
